Your understanding of this game is unheard off. Please leave, and never return. Has it? I mean, pre-LotV? Nice to hear. Blizzard used to be about polish and respecting its playerbase. Now they have deleted the one game upon which all of Blizzard rested on. Very sad to see ROC has been turned off. You'd think it would be possible to repackage that update into a standalone patch for the CD releases?
The old guard that made Blizz who they were are long gone. The people that are there now are certainly not the people from when Blizzard was a champion in the video game market. They've been downhill since SC2 release. Their Hardcore fans finally recognized their poor quality.
They are bullshit and misguided. The copy protection often gets broken as operating systems change over time or the dev just stops supporting it, but the cracked versions still work fine In this case, there was a final non-reforged P2P release of v1. Good example is anything that used the Games for Windows Live service or whatever the hell it was called.
Only way to play games that exclusively used that is to use a crack! I think prime example would be Game that perfectly playable offline but they decide to make it online only, looking at you Division, Diablo 3, COD MW, etc. With Diablo 3 they argued the game infrastructure made it impossible to make it offline. Then bam they release it on consoles and its playable offline Activision Blizzard is full of shit.
That's very common, unfortunately. Remember EA's Sim City? No some guy spoofed the authentication server with a hack and it was perfectly playable offline. All it is is restrictive DRM. Same thing when Halo 2 was released Vista Only. That one is my favorite because they trashed a heavyweight franchise that had been dominating it's genre for literally decades. The same happened with D3. Both Diablo and SimCity were unquestionably the biggest games of their genres, it wasn't even close, and then their hilarious and tragic pratfalls led to Cities Skylines and Path of Exile taking over.
Both made by small indie teams that were able to make a great game with a ton of continuing support, rather than crapping out a cash grab and completely blowing it. I'm pretty positive that WoW is next for this - they have stripped the dev team down to the bare minimum and fired all the QA people leading to an absolutely atrocious expansion riddled with bugs and unpopular decisions.
MMOs are expensive to make so it probably won't be a Paradox or GGG sized company that does it, but the king is weak and vulnerable, and someone hungry - and dedicated - enough can simply reach out and take the crown. Not really. They ruined that themselves last week or so when they added a launcher that is literally spyware. It sends user data to several different locations so that they can put ads on it in the future.
I'm honestly surprised this sub has been so quiet about it. There's even obvious fake positive reviews flooding the game lately very few owned products on the accounts. That new PDX launcher is a hot piece of shit. I now have three or four copies of my mods folder Which ended up being a big flop.
I played all the SimCity games since I was a kid with the first one and didn't even bother with No sorry, or that the devs are working on patches, nothing. Just silence. I rescued a copy of W3 and a copy of the expansion from a charity shop before they got separated a few years ago. I already played through them once before that, replayed once since buying those copies and have been thinking I'd like to play it again soon.
Feeling really smart about that purchase lately. Publishers are requiered to give a copy of any game that is sold in France to the Bnf, people are also donating games. Each year they are expanding their collection with hundreds of games!
But your raising a good question regarding games and updates and I dont know how they handle this kind of things. No one's stopping you from trying to convincing a lawyer to take on Activision and Blizzard regarding whatever suit you would use. Activision-Blizzard's massive legal team. At least in Australia, a precedent was set when Zenimax was slapped down over the FO76 trainwreck. So the impetus is there.
This is just one of the issues of the industry nowadays Paradoxically piracy is the one saving gaming history and preserving the legacy of gaming landmarks. And yet when people bring it up as a negative of Stadia exclusives, people just brush it off as "You just want to pirate games, they'd never mess up an old game". Well, I mean, here's hoping the SS remake you're working on is as far removed from this WC3Reforged abomination as possible, and I do mean that sincerely.
This also happens in Halo: CE. The original graphics is lost along with the game. In the classic mode, in the remaster version, it didn't contained some of the features in the older version. Hence, it can be a bit misleading when portraying how the older graphics looked like. Steampocalypse can happen. Yeah, my nightmare scenario is whoever succeeds GabeN taking Valve public.
Valve certainly has its flaws, but the fact that it's still a private company means that it's not beholden to shareholders. There aren't enough words to describe how much of a difference that makes. Basically it'd be a site that's a mix between Patreon and Kickstarter where people could support the renting of servers for games. The idea being that as long as a monthly minimum cost power, maintenance, rent on a server slot and a one-time startup price is kept up the server for said game would stay up with any extra going into a backup fund in case support drops below the threshold for a time, like how Enjin works with the sites it provides.
Of course, this'd need to be done with whoever'd own the rights to the code and ideally they'd have to provide evidence that the money is actually going to the upkeep of the server. I have no idea how such a thing could be set up though. I have no knowledge on business or tech so all I have is the idea and a few possible names.
It won't happen, and any attempt to do so will be chased down by all means necesdary. I purchased WC3 original on battle. Are you saying it's no longer available for download? If so that seems almost like fraud. Nope as soon as you fucking open it the bitchass 28GB will download and it's reforged now, if you don't own Reforged the game will render in old graphics.
I miss the old id software. They use to release all the source code after they took all our money. Now they take all your money and keep asking for more in exchange for a couple of new gun skins. It's also a prime example why we need corporations to lose their power and get smacked around by the governments a bit.
Blizzard, for as great as someone of their games are, is one of the most tone deaf game companies I've had products from. I know they are a. Profits come from new players, not regulars. Blizzard makes this blatantly obvious. I'm glad starcraft 2 is still what it should be. Buy what you can from GoG. Don't buy games with Denouvo at full price. Do not support titles with unnecessary online components.
Pirating is the best way of preserving games I am afraid since companies won't let that happen if they can just charge you money to buy the inferior version of that same product whilst withdrawing the original product from sale. The programming industry is the Wild West currently, and it needs to be tamed. Yeah classic campaigns also has changes from Reforged now, if you want to play classic campaign now you need a pirated copy or PTS extracted client.
