Why feminism is irrelevant

She has a lot of power. What do you think should be the consequence when men continue to use language like that? There has to be some sort of standard of decency but the consequences should not be this kind of shunning or losing the job. I need an idea to march. But those from lower income backgrounds are just as likely to support equal rights.

Eight out of 10 people from both groups agreed men and women should be equal in every way, when asked for a poll.

This may suggest lower income groups support the principle behind feminism, but aren't keen on the word itself. Three-quarters of all the women polled said the feminist movement has done either "a lot" or "some" to improve the lives of white women. Another hurdle may be some of the stereotypes and misconceptions associated with feminism.

In her introduction to the recently published anthology Feminists Don't Wear Pink and Other Lies, curator Scarlett Curtis refers to the stereotype of feminists as not wearing make-up, or shaving their legs or liking boys. These stereotypes have persisted through the ages. In the s, feminists were often called spinsters and speculation about their sexual preferences was rife. Almost a century later, these views still hold some sway. More stories like this. Having interviewed a diverse group of young German and British women for my research , I found associations of the term "feminism" with man-hating, lesbianism or lack of femininity was a key factor in rejections of the label "feminist".

The majority said they did not want to call themselves feminist because they feared they would be associated with these traits. This was despite many stressing they were not homophobic and some identifying as lesbian or bisexual. Yet shockingly, he won the election. This outraged many feminists who became angry and hostile. Their viewpoint became radical and spread like wild fire, leaving trails of bitter words and hostility amongst those who disagreed with them.

This made the topic of feminism, one you would want to avoid. It was once liberating and empowering to be a feminist because it showed strength to stand up for what you believe in, but the extremity of the issue has got us questioning if feminism today is still empowering women?

The new version of feminism has become slightly radicalised. As stated by Milo Yiannopoulos , a British public speaker who became a YouTube sensation for stirring the pot by speaking out and painting a not-so-great picture on controversial topics like racism and feminism. During his presentations, he builds interesting, yet arguable facts supporting theories that make it difficult to dispute his claims.

So, do you not think this? We need to keep changing the attitude that values being confident, competitive, and ambitious in the workplace — unless you are a woman.

We need to keep changing a culture that shines a particularly unforgiving light on women and girls of color. The unequal balance of power between husbands and wives is a contributor to domestic violence. In Muslim majority countries, specifically those under sharia law, women are completely under male dominance where they are vulnerable to violence and abuse.

As we talk of the struggles females are facing in their day to day lives, I also want to talk about the misuse of the rights given to them. Looking into the current scenario and the analytics given, the rape threats and rapes committed, in both of these aspects, India is leading which is something to frown upon, and amidst of these situations, there is a possibility that in every recorded rape case out of 10, 3 of them are false which is even more shameful.

Women have started using the rights made for their personal safety as methods to settle personal vendettas. Not just that, there are several cases of domestic violence not on women but on men. There are cases where we see the woman lying about the assault of violence happening to her just for the sake of money or to get back at a person.

There are numerous cases filed which show why is it difficult for a country to preserve feminism, where we already have stated men to be the culprit of everything. I am not saying the struggles we face are not true or the struggles almost half of the women across the globe are facing is not true; it is about females taking undue and unfair advantage of the rights provided to them. A major issue currently plaguing women is the wage gap and workplace discrimination. Some women face discrimination in the form of unequal treatment in the workplace.

The idea behind what most women believe feminism is that women should be equal to men, and also feel safe in their society. Even men and women should work together to fight for equality on both sides.
